VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH STEPS DOWN

Babcock volleyball volunteer assistant coach Alex Mahy announced Friday that he is stepping down from his position following an incident he described as occurring during Wednesday night’s Senior Night match.

In a public Facebook post, Mahy said visiting spectators directed inappropriate language toward a minor line judge who is also one of his players.

According to Mahy, he left the bench during a dead ball and addressed spectators. Mahy acknowledged in his statement that he should have reported the situation to the site administrator rather than leaving the bench himself.

Mahy also stated that the school is reviewing the incident and said his decision to step down was intended to prevent the situation from becoming a distraction for the team for the remainder of the season.

Babcock News reached out to Mahy for additional comment. Mahy said he could not comment further at this time, citing what he described as an active investigation, and suggested Babcock News contact the school for a statement.

Babcock News has not independently verified all details of Mahy’s account and is seeking additional information from the school regarding the incident and its review.
