What could the upcoming Charlotte County sales tax extension vote mean for Babcock Ranch?
Two new fire stations, a community library, and other countywide improvements are among the projects identified for funding through the proposed extension of Charlotte County’s existing 1% local option sales tax.

Will you be voting YES or NO on the proposed Charlotte County sales tax extension on November 3?
The proposal would extend the existing 1% sales tax for another 20 years, through 2046, rather than introduce an additional 1% tax.
With Election Day approaching, the Babcock Ranch Chamber is hosting an informational event TODAY, Thursday, October 22, to help residents and business owners better understand the proposal.
WHAT’S BEING PROPOSED?
According to information shared by the Babcock Ranch Chamber, Charlotte County’s approved project list includes:
- Two New Fire Stations: Proposed to serve the growing Babcock Ranch community.
- Community Library: The proposed Babcock Ranch Community Library and Annex.
- Countywide Projects: Road improvements, parks, and additional public safety infrastructure throughout Charlotte County.
These projects are included in county planning documents, but their inclusion does not guarantee construction. Implementation would depend on funding, scheduling, and other county decisions.
WHAT ABOUT SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS?
Career and technical education initiatives and school safety improvements are also among the education-related topics being discussed.
