THE COMMUNITY CHURCH VOLUNTEERS BUILD 500 WATER FILTERS FOR FAMILIES IN VENEZUELA

Babcock News visited volunteers from The Community Church today at the Palmetto Landing Amenity Center, where about 50 volunteers came together to assemble 500 water filters that are expected to be sent to families in Venezuela.

The effort is being carried out through a partnership involving Wine To Water and Thrivent. Volunteers also wrote personal notes that were placed with the filters for the families who will receive them.

Lindsay Csogi, an engagement leader with Thrivent, told Babcock News that Wine To Water creates the filtration systems, while Thrivent helps organize volunteers to assemble the filters before they are shipped to Venezuela.

Csogi said the filters are versatile and can last for up to 10 years with proper use and maintenance. She also said this is the first year The Community Church has participated in the effort.

Pastor Matt Shapton told Babcock News the project reflects The Community Church’s goal of building collaborations and partnerships that help meet community needs.

Shapton said the church wants to help address both the social and spiritual needs of communities through service and partnerships like this one.

Thrivent describes itself as a member-owned, not-for-profit financial services organization that provides financial guidance while also supporting charitable giving and community service.

The completed filters will be prepared for shipment to Venezuela, where they are intended to help provide families with access to cleaner drinking water.
