BABCOCK RANCH FAMILY QUESTIONS TGMG POLICY AFTER THEY SAY CHILDREN WERE NOT ACCEPTED FOR ONGOING CARE
A Babcock Ranch family is questioning Tampa General Medical Group’s pediatric vaccination policy after the father says his two children were not accepted for ongoing primary care because they were not fully vaccinated.
According to the father, his wife scheduled appointments for their two sons to meet the provider and establish primary care. Zach told Babcock News the family paid approximately $230 upfront before being called back for the appointments.
Zach said that after the provider reviewed the children’s vaccination status, the family was told that TGMG does not accept pediatric patients who are not fully vaccinated.
Zach told Babcock News the family was surprised to learn about the vaccination policy only after the appointment had begun and payment had already been collected. He said families should be informed of policies like this before scheduling and paying for care. Zach told Babcock News the family is seeking a refund of the approximately $230 they paid.
The family is questioning why the vaccination requirement was not communicated before the appointments and before payment was collected.
Babcock News reached out to TGMG on Wednesday to clarify its policy.
Amanda Bevis, speaking on behalf of TGMG, provided the following statement to Babcock News:
“For the health and safety of the patients we serve, Tampa General Medical Group outpatient clinics follow the recommended immunization schedule from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a family’s immunization record is incomplete, we work with the parent or guardian to communicate the safety and benefits of vaccines in preventing the spread of illness. We are available to answer questions and will work with the family to set an immunization schedule for the patient. For families who choose not to meet the CDC requirements and do not have a medical exemption, we can assist in transitioning them to another practice for the purposes of primary care.”
TGMG also addressed the family’s concern regarding the payment. Bevis told Babcock News that if a family paid for a visit but is not eligible to remain with the practice, they should contact the office and TGMG will honor a refund.
